Homemade liquid scrub cleaner

This is the ultimate helper for your cleaning! It's easy and quick to make with only 3 ingredients and works like magic.

I am still amazed at how we can make non-toxic and very effective cleaning products from just a few ingredients. Literally, I'm talking about just five ingredients that I usually buy in bulk and then I make those cleaning products that I actually need in minutes.

Today I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite cleaning products - Homemade liquid scrub cleaner. It cleans dried stains and even the most stubborn dirt perfectly. It works wonderfully for removing limescale, cleaning sinks, bathtubs, showers, kitchen sinks, bathroom tiles and grout. I use it really regularly! It is a subtle abrasive that doesn't cause damage on any surface. Basically, what I can't clean with my Homemade All purpose cleaner, I take this helper to.

Another homemade non-toxic products that I use:

What is the homemade liquid scrub cleaner made of?

You need only 3 ingredients for making this liquid scrub cleaner, which are also easily available today:

  • baking soda - or sodium bicarbonate, is a white, odorless powder that is really versatile thanks to its properties. It works great as an odor absorber and can be used as an abrasive without scratching the surface thanks to its fine crystalline structure. Baking soda is a substance that is very friendly to nature and to our health.

It could be useful...

Did you know that sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is also excreted by our body? In the stomach, it is part of the mucus that neutralizes the acidic environment. That's why ingesting a small amount of baking soda can supposedly help us stop uncomfortable heartburn.

    • Castile soap - is a natural vegan non-toxic soap that can be solid or liquid. Liquid Castile soap is made only from potassium hydroxide, vegetable oils and water. It contains no detergents, dyes or artificial fragrances. It is hypoallergenic and very suitable for the skin care of children and animals, as well as for making effective natural cleaning products. Castile soap is also very versatile and even a small amount is sufficient for excellent cleaning effects.

Warning - Castile soap should not be used together with vinegar- as it unsaponifies the soap and in higher concentrations a separate white soap gunk can be clearly seen. Therefore, if you find a homemade cleaning products that contain both soap and vinegar (of which there are countless), do not try them. Castile soap is not one of the cheapest so save it for other products like this liquid scrub cleaner!
  • essential oils - essential oils mainly give to this cleaning product its scent and can slightly disinfect surfaces and spaces. I most often use lemon, tea tree, lemon eucalyptus or a combination of these. They aren't necessary for cleaning effect but it's nice to scent your home with them while cleaning.

What can this homemade liquid scrub cleaner be used for?

  • All-purpose bathroom cleaner - great for cleaning and whitens the sink, bathtub, shower and all faucets
  • it cleans tiles and, together with the narrow brush, whitens the space between tiles
  • To clean the toilet - simply put some liquid scrub cleaner on the edge of the bowl and scrub as usual with the toilet brush
  • All-purpose kitchen cleaner - cleans the sink, tiles, stubborn coffee, wine or blueberry stains on the worktop
  • to clean the stovetop - for very stubborn dirt, it's a good idea to use a cloth to spread the cleaner, let it dry and then scrub, you can repeat this several times until the dirt is gone
  • great for cleaning adhesive residue from stickers or labels on jars or new products (boxes, jars,...) where the labels have to be removed
  • cleans well even drawings with alcohol markers from washable surfaces (laminate, floors,..) and from little children's curious hands
  • also cleans the oven perfectly - either immediately in the classic way or can be left to dry overnight and then cleaned with a cloth and a little water, or sprayed with Homemade All purpose cleaner in the morning and then wiped off

What should I store the liquid scrub cleaner in?

This homemade liquid scrub cleaner is best stored in an airtight container with a wide opening and at room temperature. The container should be made from glass or hard plastic with a tight-fitting lid.

How long does this homemade liquid scrub cleaner last?

It is best to use the liquid scrub cleaner immediately after mixing the ingredients or within 1 week. You can store it for longer, but it will begin to harden and dry over time. Therefore, you will have to add a few spoons of water to the scrub cleaner and stir well before using it again. There will also be a less intensity of the essential oil scent.
